Wisconsin Interpreting and
Transliterating Assessment
At the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) we
pride ourselves in providing the best services we have available, and it is
because of this pride that we are announcing that the Wisconsin Interpreting
and Transliterating Assessment (WITA) will be undergoing some essential
changes. A WITA Advisory Committee has been set up to help ODHH
provide input on maintaining and providing a high quality test.
While we devote our time to making the recommended changes to the
performance assessment, it will be suspended until
December 31, 2007. Beginning on January 1, 2008, the WITA performance
will again be offered. The WITA written examination will be provided during
the performance suspension and until June 30, 2008. Beginning July 1,
2008 we will no longer offer the WITA written examination, and will require
the NIC
(exit DHFS) knowledge assessment to be taken in its place.

WITA Advisory Committee members are Saul Arteaga, Pamela Sue
Conine, Sue Gordon, Mary Maier, Lois Schleicher and Steve Smart.
A team of qualified people evaluate the skills of an individual
by using the Wisconsin Interpreting and Transliterating Assessment tool (WITA).
This tool allows people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing as well
as service providers, to know the quality of the interpreting services
they may receive.
