1 DHFS hospital engineer/architect normally assigned by county for "single point contact" and facility coordination.

DHFS engineer/architect coordinates preliminary and final plan review, construction, and construction inspections with T-18 hospital surveys and JCAHO validation surveys.

2 The Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Health Care Facilities, published by the American Institute of Architects with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a nationally recognized document.

3 Applicable referenced NFPA codes, such as but not limited to: NFPA 101, 13, 20, 70, 72, 80, 82, 90A, 96, 99, 101M, 110, and 220, depending on the date of construction.

4 Units used for mammography screening are reviewed for Medicare standards.

Engineer/architect coordinates preliminary and final plan review, construction, and construction inspections with Chapter 50 licensure and HCFA required initial surveys and resurveys.

8 DHFS engineer/architect conducts preliminary and final plan review and construction inspection for all CBRFs of five or more beds, and certifies that sprinkler and fire alarm systems are operational and in compliance with NFPA 13, 13R, or 13D and NFPA 72, respectively.

9 DHFS licensing staff complete the physical plant checklist, with assistance from DHFS engineer/architect when needed.

10 COMM contracts with municipalities for plan review and does not have plan review authority in the City of Milwaukee.

11 CBRFs of eight beds or less are exempt from COMM building code requirements. Fire inspections are conducted by DHFS licensure staff unless provided by local building inspection.
