Universal Precautions
All nurses are required to follow universal precautions for each recipient for whom services are provided. All nurses are required to have the necessary orientation, education, and training in the epidemiology, modes of transmission, and prevention of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other transmissible infections.
As specified in HFS 105.19(6), Wis. Admin. Code, all nurses are required to use the protective measures that are recommended by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This includes those measures that pertain to medical equipment and supplies intended to minimize the risk of infection from HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.
