Other Access to Care Resources
There are a number of other federal and state programs that can help
communities improve access to primary care, dental care and mental health for their populations.
- Federal Community Health Centers
Program (exit DHS) -- Non-profit
community organizations located in designated Medically Underserved
Areas/Populations (MUA/Ps) are eligible to apply for federal grants
under the Community Health Centers Program (community health center,
migrant health center, health care for the homeless, public housing
health center). These centers provide financial access to
comprehensive primary care, dental care and mental health services for

- Rural
Health Clinics -- Certified RHCs are eligible for Medicare and
Medicaid cost-based reimbursement for outpatient services in rural
shortage areas (HPSAs or MUAs).
- Wisconsin
Volunteer Health Care Program (exit DHS)
-- This program can provide liability coverage for licensed health
professionals to volunteer their services and provide outpatient care
at free clinics. The Department of Administration Property &
Liability Program has a program description and application for free
clinics.
- Free Clinics of the Great Lakes
Region (exit DHS) -- Non-profit
organization that lists and provides information for free clinics.
- National Association of Free
Clinics (exit DHS) -- Provides
information and some support services for free clinics.
- National Health Service Corps:
Resources for Communities (exit DHS) -- A
variety of resources that can help communities develop primary care,
dental and mental health care.
- WI DHS Consumer
Guide to Health Care -- Information and links to health coverage
programs and low-cost medical, dental, vision, drug and hospital
resources for Wisconsin residents.
- Wisconsin Area Health Education
Center (exit DHS) -- Programs to strengthen
community-based health professions education and community health
education.

Center through WI AHEC (exit DHS) --
Comprehensive information and links for new or second career students
who are considering careers in health professions.
