Throughout Wisconsin, the primary cause of lead poisoning is lead-based paint in poor condition.  However, lead is sometimes found in consumer products and pose a risk to young children and adults.  If you have these products, we recommend that you stop using the product and either dispose of it or return it to the store for a refund.  You can obtain more information about lead poisoning, and can contact your local health department about blood lead testing.

New Item  Sindoor product recall information.  While announcement of a recall of the product, Sindoor, was made in 2007, a recent inquiry about it in Wisconsin indicated a need to release the product recall information again. Sindoor has been found to contain dangerous levels of lead. A recall has been issued for the necklaces due to the solder on the charm containing excessive levels of lead. "It's a Girl Thing" Bracelets, Necklaces, and Phone Charms recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. New Item "It's a Girl Thing" Jewelry recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. A recall has been issued for the "It's a Girl Thing" bracelets, necklaces and phone charms due to the jewelry containing excessive levels of lead.   The jewelry has a variety of charms including flowers, shoes, letters and butterflies. They were sold at retail stores nationwide from February 2006 through June 2008.[July 3, 2008]

Lifetime Brands Stoneware Dinnerware recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. A recall has been issued for the Red Nautica J Class and Villa della Luna patterns due to the stoneware dinnerware containing excessive levels of lead. They were sold as part of a set or individually online and through retail stores nationwide. [April 28, 2008]
Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo candy imported from Mexico recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo Candy recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.  A recall has been issued for Chaca Chaca Chacotrozo candy imported from Mexico due to the candy containing excessive levels of lead. Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo is a fruit pulp candy coated with salt and chili powder and is packaged in a clear plastic bag. [April 17, 2008]

A recall has been issued for the Backyard and Beyond metal water bottles due to the bottles containing excessive levels of lead in the surface paint.  They were sold at major retail stores nationwide from February 2006 through February 2008. [March 25, 2008]
Raja Foods Issues Nationwide Recall on SWAD Brand Abil, Gulal, Kanku, Kum Kum, Lagan Samagri, and Pooja Samagri due to lead poisoning hazard. A recall has been issued for these products due to the products containing excessive levels of lead.  The products are not intended to be sold for food but the labeling may be confusing and may imply it may be used for food. They were distributed through Indian grocery stores in several states. [January 16, 2008]
Romano Pitchers and tumblers recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Romano Pitchers and Tumblers recalled due to lead paint hazard. A recall has been issued for Romano Pitcher and tumblers due to the pitcher and tumblers containing excessive levels of lead.  They were sold through the Napastyle retail stores in California and through mail order catalog nationwide. [November 9, 2007]
Frankenstein Tumblers recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Dollar General recalls  Frankenstein Tumblers due to lead paint hazard.  A recall has been issued for Frankenstein Tumblers due to the surface paint on the center eyes of some of the cups containing high levels of lead.  They were sold at Dollar General stores nationwide in September 2007.  [October 4, 2007]

Aluminum water bottles recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Sports Authority recalls Aluminum Water Bottles due to lead paint hazard. A recall has been issued for the Alpine design aluminum water bottles due to the surface paint containing high levels of lead.  They were sold at Sports Authority stores nationwide from April 2006 through September 2007. [October 4, 2007]

Cost Plus World Market recalls red, blue, green and yellow Speckleware beverage containers and glass water tank for potential lead exposure risk.  A recall has been issued because the metal spigot can leach lead into lemonade and other acidic beverages.  They were sold at Cost Plus/World Market stores nationwide from May 2005 through July 2007. [August 3, 2007]

Allowable Level of Lead Lowered in Candy Consumed Frequently by Small Children This is a guidance document written by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  The FDA has lowered the allowable lead content in candy from 0.5ppm to 0.1ppm and will pursue enforcement action against candy products that contain levels of lead that may pose a health risk. [November 2006]

Dagoba Organic Chocolate Recalls "Eclipse 87%," "Los Rios 68%," And "Prima Matera 100%" Dark Chocolate Products Because of High Lead Levels Dagoba Organic Chocolate is recalling their "ECLIPSE 87%," "LOS RIOS 68%," and "PRIMA MATERA 100%" dark chocolate products.  It was found to contain lead. [March 31, 2006]

Lemonade Jars Recalled A recall has been issued for Lifetime Brands Inc. Lemonade Jars. The metal spigot contains lead. This recalled product was sold at retailers nationwide from April 2004 to November 2006. [December 13, 2006]

Special Investigation: Toxic Treats  The web page is a part of the Orange County Register, which is a paper in Orange County, CA.  This page provides information about Mexican candies which have been tested for lead and found to contain lead at unsafe levels. [June 29, 2006]

State Health Department Warns Consumers Not to Eat Chaca Chaca
Consumers, particularly infants, young children and pregnant women, should avoid eating Chaca Chaca, an imported chili-based candy from Mexico, because this product may contain excessively high levels of lead that could cause serious health problems. [March 18, 2004]

Cub Scouts Totem Badge recalled due to lead paint hazard. Kahoot Products Inc. recalls Cub Scouts Totem Badge due to lead paint hazard.  A recall has been issued for the Cub Scout totem badge due to the surface paint on the badge containing high levels of lead.  The recalled badge is 4 1/2 inches by 3 inches and has the boy scout emblem and a wolf and bear printed on the surface.  They were sold at Boy Scouts of America retail outlets nationwide from January 2000 through September 2007. Journals and Bookmarks recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Antioch Publishing recalls Bookmarks and Journals due to lead paint hazard.  A recall has been issued for bookmarks and journals due to the paint on the spiral metal bindings of the journal, clips of the bookmarks, and the clear coating on the marquis bookmarks containing high levels of lead.  They were sold at book, card and gift stores nationwide from March 2005 through October 2007.            Children's spinning wheel necklaces recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Children's Metal Spinning Wheel necklaces recalled due to lead paint hazard. A recall has been issued for the necklaces because the clasp contains high levels of lead. The recalled necklace is 30 inches long with a spinning wheel pendant. They were sold at family entertainment centers, redemption centers, small discount stores, and at www.rinovelty.com nationwide from November 2006 through May 2007. [September 26, 2007]
TOBY & ME jewelry sets recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

TOBY N.Y.C. Expands Children's Metal Jewelry recall due to lead paint hazard. A recall has been issued by TOBY N.Y.C. because the jewelry sets contain high levels of lead. The August 22, 2007 recall is expanded to include two additional styles. They were sold at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, A.J. Wright, Cracker Barrel, and Shopko stores nationwide from August 2006 through August 2007. [September 26, 2007]

Children's Charm Bracelets by Buy-Rite Designs Inc recalled  A recall has been issued because the bracelets contain high levels of lead. The recalled charm bracelets have silver-colored charms, including angels, crosses and hearts, and clear and pink beads on a silver-colored chain.  They were sold at Dollar stores and other small retail stores nationwide from March 2004 through August 2007. The recall includes three jewelry sets and were sold in pink gift boxes.  They were sold at T. J. Maxx, Marshalls, and A.J. Wright from August 2006 through May 2007. [August 22, 2007]

Cinderella Star and Sleeping Beauty Crown Earring Sets Recalled A recall has been issued by Uncas Manufacturing Co. due to the earring sets containing high levels of lead. They were sold at Wal-Mart stores in Florida from February 2007 to June 2007. [July 17, 2007]
Children's Jewelry Sets recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Essentials for Kids Jewelry Sets Recalled  A recall has been issued by Future Industries for Essentials for Kids Jewelry sets due to the metal jewelry containing high levels of lead. The recalled jewelry sets include a necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings, and the other set includes a necklace and seven pendants, one for each day of the week.  They were sold in gift stores, dollar stores, and small discount stores nationwide from August 2005 through April 2007. [July 5, 2007]

Children's butterfly necklaces recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Children's Butterfly Necklaces Recalled A recall has been issued by GeoCentral for butterfly necklaces due to the metal clasp containing high levels of lead. The recalled necklace consist of a multi-colored butterfly pendand on a multi-colored seed bead 16-inch necklace.  They were sold at souvenir and gift stores nationwide from January 2006 through May 2007. Children's Metal Jewelry recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Children's Metal Jewelry from Tween Brands Inc. Recalled A recall has been issued for children's jewelry found to contain high levels of lead.  The jewelry includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings and charms of assorted varieties which are metallic and multi-colored . They were sold at Limited Too and Justice retail stores nationwide from September 2005 through May 2007.[May 31, 2007]

Silver Stud Earrings recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Silver Stud Earrings by Crimzon Rose Accessories Recalled   A recall has been issued for silver stud earring sets due to the earrings containing high levels of lead.  The recalled earrings are oval-shaped and silver-colored studs. "ACCESSORIES" is printed on the front of the earrings' packaging. They were sold exclusively at Kmart stores nationwide from October 2004 through March 2007. [June 12, 2007]
"Claudia Jublot" rings were recalled due to lead poisoning hazard.

Children's "Claudia Jublot" Rings Recalled A recall has been issued for children's "Claudia Jublot" rings found to contain high levels of lead. The recalled rings are silver in color with red paint and a simulated diamond cluster on the top. They were sold at Big Lots! stores nationwide from October 2004 through January 2006. [February 23, 2007]

Children's "Kidsite" necklace and earring sets, with pendants shaped like flowers, were recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. 

Children's "Kidsite" Necklace and Earring Sets Recalled  A recall has been issued for children's "Kidsite" necklace and earring sets found to contain high levels of lead. The pendants on the necklaces are shaped like flowers on a silver-colored chain. The matching pierced earrings have round birthstones. The recalled jewelry sets were sold exclusively at Kmart stores nationwide from October 2001 through December 2006. [February 23, 2007]

Boy's outerwear jackets with a Carter's-brand logo on the front have snaps containing lead crating a lead hazard.

Boy's Jackets Recalled  A recall has been issued for boy's outerwear jackets with a Carter's brand logo on the front. The snap closures contain excessive amounts of lead, posing a lead poisoning hazard. The recalled jackets were sold at major department stores and discount department stores nationwide from October 2006 through November 2006. [February 13, 2007]

Baby bibs recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Baby Connection Bibs Recalled  A recall has been issued by Hamco Inc. for Baby Connection 2-Pack Easy Wipe Bibs, Baby Connection 7-Pack Feeder Bibs, and Baby Connection 2-Pack Feeder Bibs.  The vinyl material may contain lead. They were sold at Wal Mart Stores exclusively in Illinois from June 2004 through March 2007. 
Children's Metal Jewelry recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Children's Necklaces, Bracelets and Rings Recalled  A recall has been issued for Children's metal jewelry by Spandrel Sales and Marketing Inc. due to the jewelry containing high levels of lead. The jewelry includes pendants on silver-colored bracelet and necklace chains and silver-colored rings with a charm on top. The charms are in a variety of different shapes.  They were sold in vending machines located in malls, discount, department and grocery stores nationwide from February 2007 through March 2007. [May 15, 2007]
Children's Rings recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Children's Turquoise Rings Recalled A recall has been issued for Children's rings by Cardinal Distributing Co. Inc. due to the jewelry containing high levels of lead. The silver-colored rings have a round turquoise-colored stone that is surrounded by a band of silver-colored balls.  They were sold in vending machines located in malls, discount, department and grocery stores in the Baltimore, Maryland area  from August 2002 through April 2007. [May 15, 2007]
Children's Necklaces recalled due to lead poisoning hazard. Children's Religious Fish Necklaces Recalled  A recall has been issued by Oriental Trading Company Inc. for children's religious fish necklaces containing high levels of lead. The recalled necklaces have a silver fish pendant that hangs from a black cord. They were sold exclusively at Oriental Trading Company Inc.'s Web site and catalog from January 2005 through January 2007. [May 2, 2007]
Children's Rings from Cardinal Distributing Co. Inc. Recalled  A recall has been issued by Cardinal Distributing Co. Inc. for children's rings containing high levels of lead. The recalled rings are silver with either dice or a horseshoes on top. CPSC Warns About Worn Vinyl Baby Bibs  There is a potential risk of lead exposure from baby bibs with cracked or peeling vinyl surfaces. Pieces of vinyl containing lead could pose a hazard to infants if they are swallowed.   The  vinyl bibs have been sold through major retailers since at least 2004. They range in price from $2 to $7 and come in packs of up to ten. [May 2, 2007]

Children's Bracelets Recalled  A recall has been issued for children's bracelets found to contain high levels of lead. The bracelets are 8 inches long, silver-colored and have a 1 1/2 inch long casting with assorted designs, including a snake and a sword. Children’s Jewelry Sold at American Girl Stores Recalled for Lead Poisoning Hazard In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Girl Inc., of Middleton, Wis., a division of Mattel Inc., of El Segundo, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 180,000 pieces of American Girl Children’s Jewelry. Announce Recall of Metal Heart-Shaped Pendants The pendant has been voluntarily recalled by Dollar General Corp. when it was found to contain high levels of lead.  The pendant is heart-shaped, silver-colored, ribbed on the front, hollow on the back, and hangs on a pink suede cord with a silver-colored clasp. CPSC, Hirschberg Schutz & Co. Inc. Announce Recall of Metal Charms  The charms have been voluntarily recalled by Hirschberg Schutz & Co. Inc. when the charms were found to have lead poisoned a child.  They were sold in Michaels Stores and the metal charms may have small blue, pink or yellow stones and are printed with words including “princess,” “congratulations,” “city girl,” “world traveler” and “life’s blessings,” “Insert photo here,” “cherish,” “love,” and “honor.”  [March 3, 2005]

CPSC, Riviera Trading Inc. Announce Recall of Children’s Costume Bracelets  The bracelets contain high levels of lead and pose a lead poisoning hazard to children. The recalled bracelets have heart, oval, and rectangular shaped charms that have the phrases; "I like sports," "I like movies," "I like shopping" and "I like music" printed on them. The bracelet also contains various colored plastic trinkets. [January 11, 2005]

A product called "SINDOOR," often added to food as a food coloring, was analyzed by the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) and found to be nearly pure lead. Due to a risk of lead poisoning, NJPIES is urging that such products NOT be added to food.
