The Department of Health and Family Services has reorganized.

The same services are now available under the new Department of Health Services or Department of Children and Families.


Wisconsin Department  of Health Services

The mission of the Department of Health Services (DHS) is "Protecting and promoting the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin".

The new agency will be able to focus specifically on making health care more affordable and accessible as well as promoting the health and safety of all the people of Wisconsin. Among many other things, including a wide range of public health areas, DHS is responsible for:

  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program

  • Disability Determination

  • Family Care

  • Senior Care

  • Long term care support options

  • Emergency Food Assistance

  • Mental health and substance abuse services

  • and many more programs and services.

Wisconsin Department of Children and Families

The mission of the Department of Children and Families is "Protecting Children. Strengthening Families. Building Communities".

The new agency will be responsible for:

  • Child welfare

  • Adoption

  • Foster Care

  • Child support

  • Child care regulation and subsidy

  • W-2

  • The Home Visiting Program for first time parents
