Interim recommendations using
different Hib vaccine to complete the
primary series
To be compliant, the
parent (or guardian) must provide to the
school or day care
center one of the
following:
- All conjugate Hib vaccines are
interchangeable for the primary series
- A 3 dose primary series is recommended
if more than one brand of vaccine is
used:
- If a child received 1 dose of any Hib vaccine and is now between the ages of 7 and 11 months, 2 doses of ActHIB are recommended to complete the primary series
- If a child received 1 dose of any Hib vaccine before 12 months of age and is now ≥ 12 months of age, 1 dose of ActHIB would complete the series
- If a child received 2 doses of ActHIB, HibTITER, or an unknown Hib vaccine before 12 months of age, 1 dose of ActHIB would complete the series
- No booster dose at 12-15 months of age is reccomended at this time
TriHIBIT manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur
TriHIBIT is a DTaP-Hib combination approved only for the fourth dose of
the DTaP and Hib series. It is not approved for the primary series
at 2, 4, or 6 months of age.
