The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, offers two publications to help you find mental health and substance abuse care:

Helping you Choose Quality Behavioral Health Care:  This information sheet and checklist from the Joint Commission can help you think about what’s important as you choose a behavioral health organization. These organizations include those that provide substance abuse treatment services, adult mental health services, community mental health centers, child and adolescent services, foster care services, and services for those with mental retardation or developmental disabilities.

Quality Check is a service offered by The Joint Commission, a nonprofit organization that evaluates health care quality and safety. You can look up a mental health or substance abuse care facility by name or location.

The Community Mental Health Page from the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services' Bureau of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services provides information about various mental health programs. The Bureau also provides links to pages and organizations related to addiction and substance abuse and mental health needs and directories of Wisconsin certified mental health and substance abuse treatment programs.
