50.035(5) and 51.64, Wis. Stats., (created by 1989 Wisconsin Act 336).
DSL has the statutory responsibility to investigate the circumstances of
a death of a person served by a variety of institutional, residential
and community-based treatment programs overseen by DSL when there is
reasonable cause to believe that the death resulted from the use of a
physical restraint or seclusion, a psychotropic medication, or is a
suicide.
