DSL INFO MEMO 2000-10September 19, 2000 STATE OF WISCONSIN To: From: Laura Flood, Interim Administrator Re: Appointment of Director of Mendota Mental Health Institute We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Greg Van Rybroek as the Director of Mendota Mental Health Institute. Dr. Van Rybroeks effective start date for the position was August 13. Dr. Van Rybroek is bringing a wealth of experience in the area on Mental Health. His background includes training both as a psychologist and an attorney. At Mendota Mental Health Institute Greg served as Unit Chief of the Maximum Security Forensic Management Unit from 1984 to 1990. In 1990 he was appointed Clinical Director at Mendota and was involved in both the civil and forensic clinical areas of the Institute. In addition he helped obtain the legislation and funding for the development of the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center and served as Clinical Director for that program. He has been the Deputy Director at Mendota since 1996. His background will be useful to him in his new role, which includes overseeing more than 700 staff, 300 inpatients and a large outpatient program. Mendota provides care, custody and treatment for children, adolescents, juveniles and adults as well as treating geropsychiatric and forensic patients. Dr. Van Rybroeks goal is to use his background and knowledge to provide proper clinical services and support to persons in need. Mendota works with persons who for whatever reason need assistance with reentry into the community. As Director he feels that the role of Mendota Mental Health Institute is to provide state-of-the-art clinical services within a safe structure while ensuring community safety to continue to help the patients who come to Mendota leave and re-enter the community. Dr. Van Rybroek is well known in our state for his knowledge and leadership in the area of mental health. He has a strong personal commitment to quality of life and quality of care for people that is evidenced by his work with individuals who have mental health concerns and are in need of assistance and support.
