Re: Child Sexual Abuse Resource List
The purpose of this memo is to underscore the problem of child sexual abuse, and to
provide you access to resources related to child sexual abuse. The problem of child sexual
abuse is far more pervasive than most of us care to admit. The Wisconsin State
Legislature, committees on sexual assault, womens organizations, and parents have
voiced a deep concern over this limited awareness on the part of the general public and
others. National studies estimate that up to 500,000 children are sexually abused in this
country every year. One in four females and one in seven males will experience some form
of sexual abuse prior to age 18.
The Wisconsin Legislature has established a Childrens Trust Fund which centers
its activities on the prevention of child abuse. Information regarding the Childrens
Trust Fund along with many other resources are listed in the attached Child Sexual Abuse Resource/Materials List.
The attached Child Sexual Abuse Resource/Materials
List provides human service agencies, case managers, therapists, educators,
caregivers and families an organized listing of child sexual abuse information sites,
along with selected articles that are available to them from that source. The resource
list is separated into a listing of Wisconsin Resources and National Resources and how to
contact them.
The Child Sexual Abuse Materials List is
also divided into four informational categories: General Resources, Resources for
Caregivers, Child Treatment Resources, and Parent and Family Treatment Resources. This
listing provides many selected articles, materials and other information that are
available from a particular source.
The Child Sexual Abuse Resource/Materials List
provides a contact person, address, phone number and Internet Web site (if available) for
the source that you may want information from. Please use this information to contact
the Foundations, Trusts, Clearinghouses and Societies directly to request materials,
articles and other information you desire.
The listing attached is intended to be a beginning, and updated as new resources
are identified. If you have any additional resources, materials or other information
related to child sexual abuse that should be added to either list, please contact:
