Oral Health--Why and How to Provide Good Oral Care
In collaboration with
Northern and Western Wisconsin counties and the Western Wisconsin Dental
Collaborative, the Community Integration Initiative is proud to present
this valuable training opportunity for staff who provide care for people
with developmental disabilities. These
sessions are offered at no cost to you.
The
focus of this day is to provide important information about how to meet
the daily oral health needs of persons with developmental disabilities. Presenters will focus on how dental problems can be
prevented by good daily oral care.
General Health and
Oral Care
Oral health can have an impact on general health and poor oral health can
adversely affect the life of a person with a developmental
disability. This segment will provide information about the process
of oral disease and its effect on health, factors that influence the
development of dental problems, and prevention.
Nutrition and
Dental Health
A nutritionally adequate diet is a key to good health. This segment
takes a look at the food we eat and the effect that it has on our health.
How to Accomplish
Good Daily Oral Care
What is needed to ensure good oral health for
individuals and practical suggestions on how to accomplish this
for people who may not always be cooperative. Samples
of adaptive devices that can make this task easier will be shown and
demonstrated.
Balancing Choice,
Dignity, and Health
This will be a discussion about the difference between a physical prompt
