Backdating coverage
Q: Does this program backdate up to 3 months?
A: Backdating is covered in the handbook under 25.8.1 Backdated Eligibility.
- All pregnant women, except those eligible under the BC+ Prenatal program,
may have their eligibility backdated to the first of the month, up to three
calendar months prior to the month of application.
- All youth exiting out of home care that meet the criteria in Chapter 11
may have their eligibility backdated to the first of the month, up to three
calendar months prior to the month of application.
- Children, parents and caretakers may have their eligibility backdated up
to the first of the month, three calendar months prior to the month of
application for any of the months in which their family income was at or
below 150% of the FPL.
If the person has a bill from a BC+ certified provider during a backdate
period, they can contact the provider to inform them to bill BC+. They may be
eligible to receive a refund, up to the amount already paid to the provider.
Q: Will we be able to help a patient receive backdated coverage under
BadgerCare Plus, or will it follow current Badgercare guidelines of backdate
under to the first of the month of qualification?
A: Yes. Coverage can be backdated to the first of the month, up to three
calendar months prior to the month of application. Applications for pregnant
women and youths exiting out of home care can be backdated, as well as
applications for children, parents, and caretakers whose family income was at or
below 150% of the FPL during the backdating period.
Q: If a child applies for BC+ in February and he needs November bills
covered, can s/he still backdate to November as long as s/he meets all other
eligibility requirements?
