• Nation's Local Health Organizations Develop Policy Statement.  The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the National Association of Boards of Health have united to identify policy action steps to prevent tobacco use, promote cessation, protect the public from secondhand smoke, and eliminate tobacco-related health disparities.  The Joint Policy Actions Steps can be viewed here:  www.nalboh.com  (leave DHS)

• New Release - The Role of Public Health Nurses in Emergency Preparedness and Response (June 16, 2007).  This ASTDN position paper provides national guidance to all public health nurses describing their roles and actions to take to protect the health and safety of communities, families and individuals during emergencies.  (Word, 129 kb)
