State Center Intensive Treatment Programs

The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) offers three Intensive Treatment Programs (ITP) through the three Regional Centers.  The Intensive Treatment Programs are designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors and/or psychiatric needs.  The Regional Centers include Northern Wisconsin Center EXCEL in Chippewa Falls, Central Wisconsin Center Short Term Assessment Program in Madison and Southern Wisconsin Center Intensive Treatment Program in Union Grove.

All three ITP programs offer:

  • Short term programs with the common goal of returning the individual back to his/her home as soon as possible.
  • Qualified Program Staff - Psychologist, Psychiatrists, Physicians, Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants
  • A team approach which involves all of the important people in the individual's life, including family, residential care providers, day services providers, health care professionals and county officials.
