Introduction

The incidence of substance abuse among people with certain disabilities is above the national average. An estimated eight to ten percent of the general population abuses alcohol or other drugs. For people with disabilities, studies indicate that substance abuse rates may range from 15 to 30 percent.1

This article provides data about substance abuse among people with disabilities in Wisconsin. It also discusses risk factors and enabling behaviors, and provides a list of resources.
